How does roof overcladding work?

Roof over-cladding is when a new, durable layer of roofing material is laid directly over an existing roof. Most commonly, we see this happen with old, tired asbestos roofs – by adding a new layer of cladding over the top, you hide the unsightly asbestos, create a new line of defence against the elements, and prevent harmful fibres from becoming airborne.

Our Process

We follow a strict process to ensure a safe and successful roof overcladding service:

1. Put up safety equipment

First, we erect scaffolding edge protection and internal fall arrest netting to allow our team safe access to the roof and prevent the risk of falling from height. The addition of staging boards will enable operatives to traverse the roof safely.

2. Install the spacer system

Next, we begin the installation of the spacer system, which is fixed through existing asbestos cement sheets and into the portal frame within the building.

3. Install the insulation

We then install rolled insulation to meet the required building/client requirements.

4. Install the roof sheets and fixtures

Finally, we install profiled metal roof sheets to the client’s desired profile and colour scheme, the majority of the time being Goosewing Grey. All required roof fixings and closure flashings are installed as standard as part of the new roof system.

5. Final inspection and sign-off

After installation is complete, we carry out a final check to ensure the work meets our strict quality standards.
