Community Space Transformation | Norwich City Amateur Boxing Club

Norwich City Amateur Boxing Club

After more than two decades of service in Norwich, the Norwich City Amateur Boxing Club had outgrown its original home on Whiffler Road. Their vision was to transform a derelict building on the grounds of The Open Academy into a dynamic hub that champions youth development, mental health support, and community resilience.

Cladspray Solutions was proud to contribute to this mission by donating professional spray painting services as part of the building’s extensive refurbishment. Working alongside volunteers and local businesses, our team helped rejuvenate the facility into a vibrant, safe, and inspiring environment for the next generation of athletes and leaders.

The Challenge

The building donated to the club had sat unused for over 14 years. It required a complete overhaul from structural repairs to redecoration — before it could serve the needs of a busy, youth-focused boxing gym. As part of the project, surface protection, hygiene, and aesthetics were all key factors.

The facility needed to be not only durable and functional, but also bright, clean, and welcoming for children, parents, coaches, and support workers.

Cladspray’s Role

Cladspray Solutions donated labour to assist in the transformation of the building.

Our work included:

  • Surface preparation and masking for interior training zones
  • Applying commercial-grade coatings to ceilings, walls, and structural steel
  • Recoating common areas for a safe and refreshed appearance
  • Collaborating with other local contractors and volunteers to ensure a seamless finish

Using fast-curing, low-odour industrial coatings, we ensured minimal disruption to other aspects of the refurbishment, while delivering a durable finish suitable for high-traffic areas.

The Impact

Today, Norwich City ABC operates from a clean, energised space that has already welcomed hundreds of young people through its doors. The club now offers:

  • Structured boxing training for children aged 8+
  • Mental health and resilience programmes in partnership with Empire Fighting Chance
  • Daytime sessions for pupils at risk of exclusion or those who are home-educated
  • Community rooms for workshops and support groups

Club Secretary Katie Potts described the renovation as “a real labour of love” and something Cladspray Solutions is proud to have played a part in it.

Why It Matters

As a Norwich-based company, Cladspray has always championed community-led initiatives that create positive social impact. The boxing club’s mission to offer discipline, support, and belonging to local youth aligns closely with our values.

While a lot of our work involves large-scale commercial and industrial refurbishments, this project reminded us of the transformative power of space and the importance of giving back to our local community and how a fresh coat of paint can help more than just buildings.
