The building, which is to be a new commercial premises for local business Greenleaf Holdings, needed all floor load bearing steel to be protected with an intumescent coating to achieve a 60 minute fire rating.
The intumescent coating was applied using an airless sprayer, which gives a smooth and even finish, and can withstand wear and tear as well as harmful corrosion effects. The steel columns were to be boarded in at the final construction phase so did not require a top seal to be applied.
Working closely with our preferred intumescent coating supplier, Sherwin Williams, a steel loading report and painting specification was produced to use the Sherwin Williams FX1003 solvent based fireproof coating system. This was to ensure that the correct amount of intumescent paint was applied to each steel member to meet the structural steel fire protection requirements for this job.
The thickness of all structural steel fire protection coatings are tested and recorded using our Elcometer DFT gauge. This ensures they are spray applied to the correct film thickness and that all conditions are within the manufacturers technical guidelines. Once the project was completed, a 60-minute fire certificate was issued for the project.
This 2000sqm project was completed in just under 3 weeks. Architect and project manager, Steve Medler was extremely happy with the service and efficiency of this on-site spraying project.
