Projects - Corrosion Control | Birds Eye
Parts of the Birds Eye factory in Lowestoft, Suffolk; were suffering badly from rust and showing signs of extensive corrosion. We won the tender to carry out the corrosion control and protective coating of the ‘Pipe bridge’.
This large industrial steel framework, protects and supports the main services that are vital to keep the factory running. Over 100 linear meters of steel housing for power lines, gas pipes, water supply pipes, ammonia pipes and more.
The ‘Pipe bridge’ had extensive corrosion across all areas of the steel. All the rust needed to be removed and the entire structure painted with a protective coating. The protective coating system had to tolerate the extreme weather and conditions next to the sea.
The Birdseye factory is a 24/7 working environment. The ‘Pipe bridge’ had to be worked on in three separate stages, in order to minimise any disruption. Each phase was scaffolded to enable access to all areas.
Working closely with our preferred specialist coating manufacturer Rustoleum, a bespoke specification was compiled for the work.
To remove the corrosion, we have to use non-sparking methods to prevent any kind of fire hazards or risks of explosion. Wet grit blasting proved the best way for us to do this. The on site wet grit blasters removed all signs of rust and returned the ‘Pipe bridge’ back to clean, bright steel.
Once the preparation had been completed, our specialist on site painting team began spot priming all blasted areas with the Rustoleum 9169 Epoxy Rust Primer.
Our team then applied a high build, high performance, Rustoleum 9100 epoxy coating system to give a high build mid-coat with additional anti-corrosive protection. The coating system was then finished with the Rustoleum 9200 twin pack polyurethane topcoat. This topcoat has exceptionally high impact and abrasion resistance, as well as excellent, long lasting colour and sheen retention.
The project has now been successfully completed and the end product is a long lasting, anti-corrosive coating system which will last Birdseye for years to come.

Contacted Cladspray last week for a re-spray of my caravan and today it has been completed 😄 Luke and Steve were a brilliant team and they have done such a fantastic job. They paid so much attention to detail and made sure that every inch of the van looked perfect. They were also very very helpful and were more than happy to help with any queries I had. They have made it look like a brand new van and I can’t wait to have them back soon to start working on the interior! I cannot recommend enough, especially with there great prices.

Professional friendly and very helpful company and guys to deal with. We bought an old industrial unit with an asbestos roof with internal guttering system that are prone to leaking - the advice and specialist solutions Cladspray provided were not only cost effective but very practical and have extended the useful life of the roof at least another 20 years - excellent company, service and support I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them! Cheers Simon

Cladspray recently undertook works involving the cleaning and recoating of an old asbestos roof following previous works undertaken by another contractor which had failed. The team provided good communication and assistance throughout, we look forward to working together again in the future.

We are so grateful to Cladspray for donating their services, entirely for free! The Cost of Living crisis has meant so many more people are in need of our support. But before Winter, our charity hub in West Norwich, the Baseline Centre, was worn and uninviting and many local people simply wouldn’t have known what services were on offer there. Now, thanks to the renovations made possible by Cladspray and a number of local grants, the Centre has been totally transformed. It is warm, welcoming and has new spaces for support work, groups, training, community meals and so on, and it is already a thriving hub of community activity!
