Adex Interiors reached out to the Cladspray Solutions team when they recognised the need for a complete external refurbishment of four industrial units.
The condition of the existing cladding coating was starting to deteriorate. Corrosion and peeling were taking over, and it was making the buildings look old and tired. Corrosion and the delamination of coatings are most typically seen along the edges of cladding sheets, especially around windows and doors, which is where it was most obvious on these units. The window frames and doors themselves also needed to be freshly coated.
This service would come with a challenge: the units required constant access throughout daytime operational hours, and the industrial estate and its car parks were busy. This meant we’d need to tailor a service delivery solution around these constraints.
Our team identified that the cladding, roller doors, fire exit doors, and window frames of these industrial units needed cleaning, treating, and spraying with a fresh new coating of specialised paint.
The client requested we use the HD Sharman Tamadure 10-year warranty system, which we were more than happy to do. HD Sharman is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of metal roof refurbishment systems, and we regularly rely on their products for our cladding and roof spraying services. This two-component polyurethane paint contains an anti-corrosion pigmentation, essential for these industrial units, which require a product with high-performing weather and abrasion resistance.
To work around the four businesses in these units and the users of the industrial site as a whole, we scheduled our work around standard business hours, ensuring we created as little disruption for the site as possible while we worked.
The cleaning was done via pressure washing to remove old coating layers, followed by powered wire brushing and grinding to remove rust. We work to ST3 when removing rust and stubborn coatings from steel cladding sheets, which requires an extremely rigorous approach to leave a pronounced sheen on the metal. This aggressive cleaning process is essential to remove all contaminants and ensure the best level of coating adhesion.
We never begin the full spraying service without masking surfaces that need to be protected from possible overspray. These units had many windows, several doors, and signage that needed to be masked, which we did with specialist tape and plastic. Sheeting was also laid around the building to ensure the ground was protected from the product.
Finally, we used our high-spec spraying equipment to apply the chosen HD Sharman Tamadur 10-year system in an even layer across each unit’s cladding, window frames, roller doors, and fire exit doors.
After our work and the subsequent site inspections were complete, the client was left with four building units with freshly applied paint that will see their external cladding, windows, and doors through for many decades to come, with a warranty period of 10 years. The professional coatings have given the units a new lease of life and completely transformed them aesthetically. Not only this, but the cladding will be protected against weather damage, exposure damage, and corrosion for years to come.
