What’s the difference between MMA flooring and epoxy?

While MMA floor coatings and epoxy floor coatings are both strong, durable, and long-lasting, there are some differences between the two that make each of them suitable for different situations and environments.

The biggest difference between MMA and epoxy floors is the curing time. MMA is incredibly fast-curing as it is catalyst-cured, and can be used just hours after application, while epoxy floorings take around 8 to 12 hours to dry. However, both services can be undertaken out-of-hours to reduce potential downtime for your business.

While both are highly resistant to various types of damage, MMA stands up better against extreme temperatures and fluctuations, while epoxy better withstands harsher chemical exposure. This makes MMA more suitable for food and beverage factories, cold storage, pharma facilities, or simply locations that are typically cooler, while epoxy is ideal for bunds, refineries, chemical manufacturing, and general purposes.

We recommend MMA floor coatings instead of epoxy floorings when minimal downtime is critical, the property has UV lighting, and the property endures extreme temperatures or temperature changes.

3. Protect the surrounding areas

We mask any areas, fixtures, and other features that don’t require coating to minimise cleanup once the work is complete.

4. Apply the MMA flooring system

Once the surface is fully prepped and ready, our expert team applies the MMA flooring system using industry-standard rubber tools and backrolling techniques. This creates a seamless, durable finish designed to withstand heavy use.

5. Final inspection and client walk-through
