Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Flooring Installation
Anti-Static Floor Coatings
Electrostatic discharge flooring, also known as ESD or electrostatic dissipative flooring, is vital in workplaces where electronic devices or machinery are used. When two electrically charged objects come into contact, static electricity can build up, which can cause equipment failure or even injury through fires and explosions.
In environments that require precise control over electrical charges, Cladspray Solutions offers ESD epoxy flooring as an effective solution. Our epoxy flooring creates a preferred pathway for electricity flow, reducing the buildup of static and addressing safety concerns with utmost care, while meeting industry standards.
Benefits of Anti-Static Floor Coatings
Protects electronics & reduces product waste
Prevent electronics from being damaged by static discharge.
Improves safety
Reduce the risk of fire and explosions.
Increases efficiency
Lowers production errors and downtime.
Ensures compliance
Keep compliant with standards such as BS EN 1081 and BS EN 61340.
Why install ESD flooring?
When people walk over a normal floor, they store a negative charge, meaning they have a surplus of electrons. As they move, the positive and negative charges separate.
When people come into contact with an object that has fewer electrons, those electrons move across to balance out the difference, causing a static shock. A spark, which might not be visible, can damage electronics like microchips and machinery, and even cause explosions if chemicals are around.
If your business handles electronic components or volatile chemicals, you likely require ESD flooring. ESD flooring works by dissipating the electrostatic charge via grounding points in the floor, reducing the chance of static discharge.
Where to use ESD flooring
ESD flooring is crucial for safety, productivity and cost savings. Some of the most important places to use it include:
- Electronics manufacturing facilities: Even the smallest amounts of static discharge can cause damage to circuit boards in electronics
- Car & automotive manufacturing areas: Vehicle assembly areas are full of wiring, car parts and charging equipment, which can be damaged by static discharge
- Research & development labs: Flammable substances like chemicals, grain and sugar used in medical manufacturing can become combustible due to static discharge, causing fires
- Solvent storage areas: Solvents like paint thinners and acetone are extremely volatile, so coming into contact with an electrical charge could cause fires and explosions
Our Process
Whether you’ve had an anti-static floor coating before and it’s become damaged, or it’s the first application, we’ll prepare the surface using shot blast and diamond grinding to allow for good adherence. We’ll also fill any cracks or damaged floor with an epoxy repair mortar.
When the coating process is complete, we perform a final inspection with you to ensure you’re happy with the result before sign-off.
